Story of blood es la cuarta pista y el segundo adelanto del álbum Mercy de John Cale (2023), una canción con la colaboración de Weyes Blood, sobre la que el músico comentó: "Había estado escuchando el [álbum 'Front row seat to earth' de 2016] de Weyes Blood y recordé la voz pura de Natalie [Mering]. Pensé que si podía hacer que viniera y cantara conmigo en la sección 'Swing your soul', y algunas otras armonías, sería hermoso. ¡Lo que obtuve de ella fue otra cosa!. Una vez que entendí la versatilidad de su voz, fue como si hubiera escrito la canción pensando en ella todo el tiempo. Su variedad y su intrépido enfoque de la tonalidad fue una sorpresa inesperada. Incluso hay un pequeño pasaje allí donde ella es un timbre muerto para Nico".
