"Para nosotros, 'Hole in the ground' es una canción que mana de nuestra conciencia. El hecho de alejarnos un tiempo de la composición nos ha permitido entrar al estudio como si fuese una suerte de lienzo en blanco que resultó inspirador", afirma el líder del grupo, Eli Hewson. "A veces resulta difícil hablar del significado de tus canciones, pero nosotros las vemos como brotes entre los escombros. O como el último recuerdo borroso que tienes de una persona. Es una especie de meditación sobre la esperanza y cómo mantenerse presente y abierto en la vida".
