Acompañado por una suave guitarra acústica, 'Refuge' representa un tierno momento de reflexión e introspección antes de despegar en el estribillo: "Di que soy invencible, todo es mentira porque, cariño, esta noche estoy temblando, persiguiendo un sueño, pero estoy cansado. Si nunca lo conseguimos, al menos podremos decir que morimos intentándolo".
"Me gusta la letra «morimos en el intento», porque me recuerda a Get Rich or Die Tryin' de 50 Cent", explica Dermot. "En el escenario, me siento muy seguro de mí mismo… Nadie puede hacerme tambalear. Creo que las personas cercanas a mí me ven como alguien sólido y fuerte, pero no siempre es así. Gabe sacó a relucir mi vulnerabilidad. En lugar de preguntarme sobre qué quería escribir, tomó mi cuaderno y comenzó a leerlo. Todos mis sentimientos quedaron al descubierto".
